CHALLENGE! WHORES CHALLENGE!
It's been a busy summer at Whores HQ, with lots of work and travel for every lady contributor.
In order to get back in touch with our WoM-nature, and prepare mentally for Issue 4 (now in the very earliest of planning stages), we are running a DRAWING CHALLENGE!

Here's the chain: Ellen has challenged Sacha, Sacha has challenged Ellen, and Ellen and Sacha both put their heads together and challenged Jeremy! The challenge: draw someone cool! (As it worked out, they're all very Whores of Mensa, but what else would you expect?

From left to right, the challenge subjects are:
Ellen must draw rock fandom legend Cynthia Plastercaster.
Jeremy must draw the world's second most-read author (after Shakespeare, according to the BBC!), Agatha Christie.
Sacha must draw Franco-American-Bulgarian feminist and kickass novelist, Julia Kristeva.
The due date: September 30th. But we may start posting sooner, so stay tuned!

Want to join in the challenge? Comment here and we will give you a cool person to draw!

In other news: UK shops will soon be re-stocked! THIS WE SWEAR!

Happy almost-September!

Hi Sarah!
Okay, but promise to send your image in so we can post it on the blog!

Your challenge: draw IRIS APFEL!

Google her - you won't be sorry!

Can't wait to see what you get up to - and please pass my greetings on to all of the Camberwellians this evening!

best,
Ellen

Dear Garen,
Chaps are most definitely welcome!
Your challenge: draw Zora Neale Hurston (she was the subject of a fantastic Zadie Smith piece in last week's Guardian review, if you're curious!)
Enjoy! And don't forget to send us a jpg! :)
best,
Ellen L.

Hello Ellen - here's my attempt at Zora. I tried to steal a knowing smile from a younger portrait, and transported it a few years into the future - though I'm sure she still had it.

Er, have I missed my chance for the September round? If someone gave me a challenge today, I might be crazy enough to get it done by tomorrow.

I'm really enjoying the blog by the way. I picked up the first WoM comic a few years ago on a trip to London & Oxford, also discovered Jeremy's minicomics at Caption, but then I lost track of what y'all were doing until I heard that Ellen had joined the conquering whorde. Cheers.

Hello Eli!
We would be so so pleased if you would join in!
You can choose: Theodora Keogh, Ingrid Pitt, or Vera Nabokov.
Can't wait to see your entry,
Whores of Mensa

With my one-day deadline I couldn't find any photos of Theodora or Vera - fortunately, Ingrid Pitt is pretty great to draw & to read about, so here you go. I guess this is somewhere in between Hammer horror and the Berliner Ensemble.
